Valentine's Day Lights

I cannot believe it, but on my way in to work I saw that someone had decorated their yard for Valentine's Day. That in and of itself is weird. I'd love to see the inside of this person's house. I always wonder about people with that kind of time on their hands. Is their house spotless? Well decorated? Have they read all the books they are interested in? What is this person like who is so bored (and has so much money laying around) that they purchase Valentine's Day lights? That's right, these weren't just red Christmas lights. These were red lights configured in the shape of hearts (some with arrows in them). First of all, it's not a real Holiday. Second, do something productive with yourself. Third, give the money to charity if you are having such difficulty finding a way to spend it all. Sorry, call me Scrooge (or the V-Day equivalent) but I just do not get it. Sure, hang a cardboard decoration in the front window, a few window clings perhaps, I'm okay with that. Even been known to buy a card and gift for my honey. But spending time and money to decorate your yard for Valentine's Day? Ok, maybe if your last name is Valentine, but even then pretty weird.
Anyone got an opinion on this? (Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that Novy does this? Sorry if I have offended, it's just my opinion)

I believe that is lame, also.
Well yes I do celebrate Valentines day but I dont decorate my house - only for Halloween/Samhain, bdays, Ostara/easter and Winter/ solstice/xmas oh and parties
However it isnt lame for me as a wiccan I celebrate sabbaths and esbats
And I have a holiday tommorrow Imbolic
I am into rituals and all so I respect others when they celebrate.
I dont think it is any weirder than putting up a flag on the fourth of july or a cross on easter
Valentines is about love so it is worth celebrating because we need more love and less war (just my opinion)
anyhow I think the decorating is cute but I spend most my valentine with my love ones... I normally buy valentines and choco for friends and family and then I get something special for the hubby
:) oh an not offended :)
It's not the celebration of it that I think is weird, it's the money and effort to put up lights, when that has previously been an effort that is reserved for major holidays. Patriotism I am all about (and I realize we differ here) but it takes no effort to hang a flag, it is a small gesture. I am just amazed at the lengths people will go to now for any and all 'holidays'. Next thing they will be hanging apples from trees on 'National Teacher's Day' or decorating with cane's for 'Grandparent's Day'... you know?
I hate Valentine's Day. Even when I'm in a relationship and - unbelievably - happy, I still hate it. It's just a stop-gap for the shops before Easter. Like anyone has any money left after Christimas?! I can't believe people actually break up because their partner didn't buy them a girft or card for a day that isn't even a real celebration! But that's just me.
And, yes, frankly Valentine's lights are incredibly over the top and pointless. But I would probably find it fun - if I had all the time and money in the world - to always try and out do people like that. Probably by decorating my house in anti-valentine's decorations! Black lights, broken hearts etc. Hehehe. Tolerance and balance...
sending valentines to the troops is a great idea
if you know addys
That's true. It would help moral I'm sure.
morale?
That looks beter...
do you know how you can get a mailing list?
My neighbor had Valentine's decorations up on January 2nd. I love Valentine's Day, but was very surprised to see anything associated with it up that early! Now that I have kids, I'm going to make V Day special for them every year.
