Books
I read a lot. Sometimes I blog a little about what I am currently reading. Well I just finished a book by Catherine Coulter. I have read a few others by her. I obviously forgot about the other books and so I bought another of hers recently. OOPS.
If you like suspense novels, courtroom thrillers psychological thrillers etc… Don’t make the mistake of reading her books. Some of them were okay (riptide). But I’ve noticed a common annoyance that she brings to her books. Her characters are flat, they are either bad to the core (pure evil) or next in line for the sainthood. Not only are they either all good or all bad, but they are beautiful and buff and sweet if they are good guys. You can imagine the bad guys. They are never good looking, never well dressed or well spoken. I mean, I think she thinks that bad guys really are that easy to identify. For some reason she finds the eating habits of her FBI agents to be absolutely riveting and so she is careful to describe all the healthful meals they eat. And their sex lives? Please don’t get me started. The leading couples’ idea of kinky is for him to ‘ever so slowly’ remove the big fat rollers from her hair before making love! Is she for real? WTF? Not only that but she is always describing the ‘good guys’ as lovers who are all about ‘her’ pleasure and don’t really care if they ‘get there’ or not. There will be time for that later…. Please. Either she has the best husband in the universe, or she has never been with a man.
I just started a Steve Martini book. I’ve read him and as I recall liked him very much.
I’ll let you know.
Also don’t know if I blogged about this, but if you didn’t already read Flowers for Algernon in High School check it out. Not a mystery or suspense book, but a very compelling read. Without giving much away, it is about a mentally retarded man. I laughed and cried and would recommend this book to anyone.
Also recommended (while I’m on a book kick): Line of Vision, The DaVinci Code, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, The Clan of the Cave Bear, Summer Sisters, Bridget Jones Diary, The Jester, The Devil's Code, Along Came a Spider. Boy is that a mixed bag of nuts!

"Flowers For Algernon" is a stone classic.
Have you ever seen either of the movie versions? The Matthew Modine version is not very good, but the Cliff Robertson version is very good indeed.
Hey Pynchon, I was just thinking about you I need to visit your blog!
I haven't seen either movie version, but I kinda like Mathew Modine, but I'll take your recommendation anyway if I do decide to see one. Thanks.
Good call Lucas.
