Texas
Well I made it.
I'm in Texas. I'm visiting a Chemical plant tomorrow morning. Today I spent in safety training. I didn't sleep much last night. My departing flight was delayed by over 2 hours. By the time I got to my hotel (over an hour from the airport) it was 12:20 local time (left my house 3pm eastern time). I was so tired. The good news is I drove out of that huge airport, through downtown Houston, and all the way to my hotel without one wrong turn. Whew.
I have a crummy rental. I think it is a Saturn Ion or something like that. It is very new, but the stupid rental place couldn't bother to clean the inside of the windshield. So I drove through Houston at night, peering throught the smudgies.
I saw a cool bird today. Saw it before in my bird book but we don't have these in Ohio. Boy do they make some crazy sounds.
I guess most people wouldn't be too excited by these, there are so many of them that the locals might consider them a nuisance, but I was very happy to see at least one new bird on my trip.

I am going up to my room now, to wash my hands. You can imagine some of the past google searches that have been done on this PC (saw them listed when I was typing in Grackle). Oh yeah, this is either a Boat Tailed or Great Tailed Grackle I think. My guess would be that those are two names for the same bird.
Maybe I'll check back this evening. This might be the most idle time I've had in quite awhile.

Was that bird in the field guide you brought?
Glad to see you're blogging during your trip, I was wondering if you would. Hopefully you'll get some sleep tonight and your stay will be a short one! How's the weather there by the way?
It's 50s to mid 60s here. I didn't bring the book after all. I saw how much stuff I HAD to bring and decided I probably wouldn't be bird watching anyway so I didn't bring it. You should see if you can find a .wav of their song though. They cluck and squeak and make a ton of noise. Also they sit in flocks in trees. And they look in the bed of pickup trucks for food.
It was like a friggen heat wave here today.
